SplitFish FragFX V2 is the controller bundled with a PlayStation 3 if it were 1988

Unlike Microsoft’s silly but sort of understandable proscription against mice on home consoles, Sony doesn’t mind letting gamers use a mouse on their lap. Swiss peripherals maker SplitFish has released a new model of their FragFX mouse, the V2, with offers “significant improvements”, but is presented here primarily because it looks odd. It is eighty of your dollars.

Now Now, Play Nice: Aliens Vs. Predator Ads

This is a set of print ads run by a New Zealand cable channel advertising its upcoming showing of Aliens vs. Predator . As you can see (if Geekologie hasn’t burnt out your retinas yet) they feature an Alien vs. Predator playing together civilly. This one is chess , but hit the jump to see pool and swingball. And speaking of swingball — go ahead, give them a kick. Go on — I can take it. Wait wait wait, I’m not rea–OH OFFFFOW OWW OWW OWW OOOOOOOWW OWW OW OW OH STOP OH STOP UHHH UUHH UUHH I CAN’T BREATHE STOP UHHH UUHHHH. Oh yeah, that’s the stuff . Hit it for the others.

Short Film: What’s in the Box?, a futuristic tribute to Half-Life (probably)

There has been some speculation that this nine-minute video, ” What’s in the Box? “, is some sort of teaser for Half-Life . And that makes a lot of sense: the character audio track is “missing”; it’s all shot from a first-person perspective; it’s set in an empty European city; the sky is yawning open to puke down fireballs over a giant tower. Oh—and it uses Half-Life sound effects. But it’s all far too similar for me to think it’s actually something sanctioned by Valve, especially when one of the things that makes the Half-Life series feel like it does is Valve’s commitment to making the game experience itself tell the story, not cut scenes or accompanying films. I’d go along with ” Half-Life tribute film”—and it’s a very good one, at that.

Need for Speed franchise splitting into trio

Filed under: Gadgets , Etc. Click above for a high-res gallery of screenshots from coming Need for Speed titles Electronic Arts, the folks who recently brought us Need for Speed: Undercover , are now working on three (possibly four) new titles in the franchise. According to EA, they’re just trying to “keep the game fresh and the players entertained.” If you’re a cynic, you’re getting another plate of something that hasn’t tasted good since Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Your three options will be NFS: Shift, NFS: Nitro, and NFS: World Online. Shift is “built for racers by racers” and will “deliver a true driver’s experience that reflects contemporary motorsports.” Nitro is an arcade take on the game with “a fresh and unique visual style.” World Online is a free web-based player that “takes the race into the largest open world in the history of Need for Speed.” And if you believe the skinny from Eurogamer , EA is working on a fourth NFS that will continue the work of “crafting different games for different audiences and their unique tastes in the driving category.” As for the ones we know about, Speed and Nitro will hit shelves this fall, with World Online following in winter. For now, you can can read the press release after the jump, and check out the high-res screenshots below.
