Whenever a company names its product with an “X” we generally expect something really cool and groundbreaking. In the case of the just unveiled Tesla Model X , that’s exactly what we got, but it might be hard to notice upon first glance.

Because you get to try and conceptualize gems like this: a “huge rolling cross-country pleasure ball” that’s nuclear powered and features a hotel-like interior that remains upright thanks to some gyro-stabilization. Supercavitation works on bigger boats, too, and a new generation of cargo ships will use lots of little bubbles to improve their fuel efficiency by 25%.

NASA has been actively encouraging aerospace companies to start working on the next generation of passenger airliners, and we’ve been impressed by futuristic designs from Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Northrop Grumman revealed its design last week, and it probably looks familiar: it’s basically a giant B-2 stealth bomber that you can ride inside.

Ever since the last flight of the Concorde, the priorities for air travel have changed from going faster to going more efficiently. An EU-sponsored study called LAPCAT has been trying to shake things up with a hypersonic aircraft called the A2, which would take 300 passengers anywhere on Earth at over Mach 5.
