You’re So Oldschool!: Cassette Tape Watches

This is a $135 EOS Mixtape Watch (that looks fairly similar to THIS tape watch). For those of you born yesterday, it looks like a cassette tape , which was a popular audio format from yesteryear before the advent of holographic music discs and iProds. OMG I USED TO MAKE THE BEST MIXTAPES ! Introducing the EOS Mixtape Watch. This watch features a anodized steel case with “EOS NEW YORK” laser etched onto the base. On the sides of the case laser etched also is a robot and “60 MIN.” On the dial is two movable discs which look like the movement of a real cassette tape. On the right dial is where the hands are for the time. There are also orange markers present to indicate time. Check it — I just came up with a new watch-related joke. So a guy walks into a sports bar and asks the bartender, “bartender, do you have the time?” “No, but you can get a Bud Light bottle and shot of Maker’s Mark for $4 till 8PM. Plus free pinball!” Ha, did I say joke? I meant personal fantasy. Hit the jump for two other color options and a link to the product site if you’re interested in oldschool flava.

Gigantic-huge Diesel watch: "Super Bad Ass"

Mitch at Watchismo writes in with news of the new honkin’-huge Diesel Super Bad Ass watches: “These monstrous timepieces epitomize this series with many functions in one big old timepiece. A chronograph, a second timezone and a compass all piled into this 55.5mm long block of metal!” $250 isn’t insane for a really nice watch, and this is, indeed, a really nice watch. If I hadn’t just filled my second watch-box (to the horror of my wife), I’d be seriously tempted. Stop Time: Mecchanice Veloce and Brembo team up for carbon-ceramic watch

Filed under: Gadgets , Etc. , Tech Aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, vulcanized rubber…it was only a matter of time before somebody made a watch out of carbon ceramic. And who better to do it than Brembo and Meccaniche Veloci? The former you’ll know well as the most recognized name in brakes. The latter may be known to some of you as the Italian watchmaker that designed the Quattro Valvole timepiece , named and styled after the four-valve cylinder head and incorporating four individual automatic Swiss watch movements. Now the two have come together to produce a special edition Quattro Valvole Carbon Ceramico (CCM), unveiled at the 2009 Baselworld watch show, that could be the ultimate car watch even among a rapidly expanding sub-segment. The carbon-ceramic watch case is made by Brembo using the same process as it uses for producing racing brake discs. Short fibers of carbon are combined with high-strength ceramics and formed using high-pressure water jets. The result is incredibly strong yet lightweight construction that is also highly resistant to corrosion or deformation. Like Brembo’s brake calipers, buyers can choose between different color combinations of red, black, yellow or silver, and the watch comes with interchangeable straps in rubber and alligator leather. As well it should, at $15,000 apiece…another element this unique timepiece shares in common with a set of carbon ceramic brakes. Audi centennial timepiece celebrates 100 years on four wheels with four hands

Filed under: Gadgets , Audi , Lifestyle Audi teamed up with Munich-based watchmaker Chronoswiss to create the Tachoscope, celebrating 100 years of Audi. The mechanical timepiece has a chronograph and tachometer function (to measure velocity) inspired by the Auto Unions that helped define the Audi adventure: the second hand’s numerals are derived from the tach in the Auto Union Type C Grand Prix racer. Also novel is the fact that the hour hand resides in the upper inset dial — the large hands are the second hand and chronograph. The watch face is enamel and the crown is diagonally fluted like a gear, and the back cover is glass. The Tachoscope comes in two flavors: white gold and platinum. Thankfully, the back cover is glass so you can see where your €14,900 ($19,800 USD) has been spent if you plunked down for white gold, with the platinum edition setting you back €24,900 ($33,000 USD). Only 100 examples will be made, and you can read all about them in the press release after the jump.
