Kind Of Questionable: PS3 ‘Kids’ Commercial

This is a fan-made commercial by 29-year-old Ben McCambridge (who spent $6K of his own money to create it) for the PS3 called ‘Kids’. It shows young children cast in the following roles to demonstrate all the fantasy-fun to be had playing video games : 1. Middle school bully beater-upper 2. Astronaut 3. Football All-star 4. Hobbit 5. Soldiers at war 5. Promiscuously dressed teen trying to sneak out of the house to meet her boyfriend while her mom and step-dad argue in the kitchen Admittedly, the commercial was very well made, I’m just not sure about the message it’s sending. WHEN YOU’RE SIX-YEARS OLD YOU DON’T NEED HYPER-REALISTIC VIDEO GAMES TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. Wanna be an astronaut? Sit in a laundry basket with tinfoil wrapped around your head. Want to play Lord of the Rings ? Get a couple friends together and hit each other with sticks in the woods. You’ve gotta use your imaginations while you’ve still got ‘em! LIFE DOESN’T GET ANY EASIER. Soon you’re gonna be older and actually NEED video games to escape from reality. Plus booze. Can’t forget about the booze. *glug glug* Oh yeah, f***in’ loving life over here. Hit the jump for the worthwhile commercial.

Air Force Builds 1,760 PS3 Supercomputer

Can you say YOUR armed forces’ supercomputer was built entirely out of gaming consoles by the same company who invented the Walkman ? I think not! Enter the Air Force’s 1,760 Playstation 3 supercomputer, allegedly the 33rd largest supercomputer IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.* Yes, the Air Force’s crazy PS3 computer consists of all those gaming consoles, stripped of their Blu-ray functionality, connected to 168 seperate graphical processing units and 84 coordinating servers. It’s used “for things like research into AI, fast processing of satellite pictures and the enhancement of radar.” Nice, I assume it can still stream Netflix though, on account of the movie on the screen there. AND YOU BETTER HAVE NOT PAID FOR 1,760 SUBSCRIPTIONS EITHER, AIR FORCE. You think I won’t whip your ass in some Peggle? BRING IT, ACE! *Alien supercomputers excluded. Learnin’ Thangs: Video Game Poll Results

Kotaku (a video game blog) recently polled its readers and came up with this informational graphic summarizing over 20,000 gamers’ tendencies . Although I question how valid it is since there’s no mention of teabagging and name-calling or how often I have to mute all the 12-and-unders playing Call of Duty . Shit, when I was your age we did homework. Plus things outside. I’m talking flashlight tag bitches, what?! Kotaku Census 2010: The Results [kotaku] Thanks to Zeke, who once played video games 48 hours straight for charity. Charity my ass, Zeke, you’re addicted!

Purported PS3 ad sports Nazi imagery

Sony’s “edgy” marketing gets it attention, but it’s remarkable how tone-deaf it is to what people other than teenage boys will think. It’s as if it doesn’t see that the story should be “PlayStation 3,” not “look how crude and offensive Sony is.” Erwin Rommel, Joan of Arc resurrected by PlayStation 3. REPORT: GT5 to get weather changes, night racing - and yes, damage rendering [w/POLL]

Filed under: Gadgets , Etc. , Tech , Audi , Lifestyle Audi is obviously looking forward to being in the coming Gran Turismo 5. After all, the Quattro company has created a website to promote its car on the N?rburgring in real life and in the game, and it interviewed GT5 mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi about what fans can expect. Yamauchi-san revealed that the game is going to offer not only more vehicles, more online features, and increased detail, but it will also include night racing, damage rendering (previously confirmed), and weather changes. If you watch the Audi R8 Meets Gran Turismo 5 video, one of the game developers even talks of one day providing weather reports for an entire 24-hour race, and you can read the interview with Yamauchi-san by clicking on a PDF link here . The graphical and gameplay additions are surely welcome and long overdue, and could return GT5 to the head of the racing sim pack - whenever it finally gets here… View Poll [Source: GT Planet ] REPORT: GT5 to get weather changes, night racing - and yes, damage rendering [w/POLL] originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 13 May 2009 11:29:00 EST.
