Rather than record a finite amount of information about the light in a photograph, as is the case with other camera sensors, the Lytro sensor records the entire “light field,” which is made up of “all the light rays in a scene,” according to the Lytro website. This includes the color, intensity and direction of the rays of light. Other cameras simply record all the light as a single amount of light. With this vast amount of data, the focus of a photo can be fully adjusted to match a photographer’s desires, using a computer, in the same way one might use Photoshop to adjusts hue, brightness or contrast on a regular photograph. This means never having to worry about whether auto-focus centered on the right part of a picture, and it makes capturing fast-motion much easier. Admittedly, cool technology — but it still breaks my heart a little to know everybody and their grandma (ESPECIALLY grandma) will be able to do things that once took some actual knowledge and skill. Facebook just announced they’re jacking up the maximum size of photos you can upload from 720 pixels to 2048. What does this mean? It means your photos can now be 8x as large. Geez, it’s not rocket surgery. I had to get my mom to sign me into AOL this morning and even I understand it. There’s also gonna be a new and improved photo viewer and easier tagging and uploading as well. Barrel roll! So expect higher-res shots of margaritas and pretty ladies appearing on the Geekologie Facebook page soon. And, if you’re really lucky, maybe one day I’ll post a picture of my sessy ass. Cups, get it? Like bras . Except the booboo looking strippers in the picture actually set beverage cups on the hood (which I wouldn’t stand for). They don’t call me hawk-eyes for nothing you know. Is that a Wendy’s next door? A South Carolina police officer feared his cop car was looking dirty, so he took it to a stripper-sponsored “Tits n Tats” car wash to get his cruiser shined. There are pictures. They ended up on Facebook. He got fired. “I think he took his personal car there first and then he went in his police car,” Caldwell said. “I don’t think he was trying to be malicious. I think he used completely poor judgment.” Haha, he took his personal car and then came back for more in the cruiser. That’s hilarious. I would have just taken my personal car twice. Remember when Pluto was a planet? Me neither, I drink too much. And, I don’t know if we can really trust anything NASA tells us anymore, but these are allegedly the most detailed images of Pluto ever taken. As you can see, we still have a long ways to go. NASA today released the most detailed set of images ever taken of the distant dwarf planet Pluto. The images taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope show an icy and dark molasses-colored, mottled world that is undergoing seasonal changes in its surface color and brightness. Pluto has become significantly redder, while its illuminated northern hemisphere is getting brighter. These changes are most likely consequences of surface ices sublimating on the sunlit pole and then refreezing on the other pole as the dwarf planet heads into the next phase of its 248-year-long seasonal cycle. The dramatic change in color apparently took place in a two-year period, from 2000 to 2002. Jesus, a two-year period? Somebody rocket that dwarf planet some sanitary napkins! I know for a fact the government can pull images from a person’s brain because they’ve been probing around in my dome for years, messing with the delicate ecosystem up there. And one time when I was being interrogated I saw a picture of a dinosaur in an agent’s file folder, SO I KNOW. Anyway, apparently they’ve decided to make the technology public knowledge. Having modeled how images are represented in the brain, the researchers translated recorded patterns of neural activity into pictures of what test subjects had seen. To construct their model, the researchers used an fMRI machine, which measures blood flow through the brain, to track neural activity in three people as they looked at pictures of everyday settings and objects. As in the earlier study, they looked at parts of the brain linked to the shape of objects. Unlike before, they looked at regions whose activity correlates with general classifications, such as “buildings” or “small groups of people.” Once the model was calibrated, the test subjects looked at another set of pictures. After interpreting the resulting neural patterns, the researchers’ program plucked corresponding pictures from a database of 6 million images. Soon, everyone will have a photo printer in the back of their head to print off worthwhile images they’ve seen. Me? I already have one. Don’t believe me — check this stack of pictures. What?
