A few people at CES this year were showing off 4K LCD TVs, which are four times the standard HD resolution that we’re all used to by now. Yawn. Sharp , on the other hand, has an 8K LCD, which is sixteen times HD. It’s glorious.

FCC tells TV advertisers to turn their damn commercials down

The FCC has adopted the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, which will require ads to be broadcast at volumes no louder than the volume of the show that they’re running with. Until now, ads have been louder because YELLING AT PEOPLE MAKES THEM WANT BUY YOUR STUFF. Idiots.

I’ll bet you never thought you’d be jealous of Canada (of all places), but cable companies there have started offering packages where you can pay for only the channels you watch. Meanwhile, here in the U.S., cable providers are still covering their ears and loudly yelling that doing this exact same thing is impossible.

Sony’s WhiteMagic LCD doubles brightness with pure white pixels

Through the magic of science or optics or something, LCD screens are able to create white light by mixing other colors of light. This works fine, but not being satisfied with “fine,” Sony has gone and added an entirely new pixel of pure whiteness, which can double a screen’s brightness or make it twice as efficient, but not both at the same time.
