Note: This only shows Star Wars and Harry Potter. But you wanna know how Pokemon, Twilight, Dr. Who and Star Trek stack up, right? Click HERE, RIGHT HERE DAMMIT for the whole thing. This is an infographic comparing various sci-fi /fantasy franchises based on their internet presence. Things like number of Facebook likes, fan-fiction submissions and Wiki entries. Apparently Harry Potter is the big winner though, which I’m okay with since it wasn’t Twilight . Although I was a little disappointed Jurassic Park didn’t even make the cut. Come on, I’ve written over 20,000 pieces of fan-fiction myself. I met a t-rex at a bar, we boned. I wrote about it in my diary. Haha, there’s 19,999 more where that came from! (It came straight from my heart is the thing) Internet Fandom Infographic of the Day [geeks.thedailywh.at] Thanks to Mark and carlo, who were both pissed Lord of the Rings didn’t make the list and may or may yes be into hobbit fantasies.

This is a series of minimalistic X-Men posters by artist Nicholas Hyde. These and a bunch of other geeky/pop-culture posters (you can see Harry Potter and LOTR after the jump) are available for sale over at Nicholas’ Etsy store if you’re interested. My love? My love is not for sale. My soul, yes, but you’ll have to bargain with the devil for that one. I traded it to him for the sexual prowess of a tiger! Which, fun fact: JUST AN OLD WIVES’ TALE. But did he tell me that? Noooooooo , he’s always gotta be the little f***ing bargain hunter. Up yours, Satin! (he hates it when you call him that) Hit the jump for his Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings posters and a link to the Etsy page.

JK Rowling , best known for her initials being the same as the acronym for just kidding (jk jk!), considered offing redheaded stepchild Ron Weasley in the middle of the Harry Potter franchise because she’s sick she was in a “dark place”, despite the fact she was a multi-millionaire before the third book even came out. Hey — I guess money doesn’t buy happiness after all. Except mine. It would definitely buy mine. When asked if she had anticipated any of the main characters dying in the series, she said: “Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die. “Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn’t in a very happy place, I started thinking I might polish one of them off. Out of sheer spite. ‘There, now you definitely can’t have him any more. “But I think in my absolute heart of heart of hearts, although I did seriously consider killing Ron, I wouldn’t have done it.” Admittedly, I can commiserate with Rowling on this one. Just not as a writer, as a person who makes decisions based on sheer spite. HOHO, YOU LIKE THE NOSE, DON’T YOU, FACE?! WELL TOO BAD! *takes potato peeler to nose* I smoked PCP! JK Rowling admits she was thinking of killing off Ron Weasley [telegraph] Thanks to Lord Voldemort (who was all for the decision) and Christine, who were pissed with Rowling’s decision to kill off Boromir while he was trying to protect Merry and Pippin.

This is a series of baby dolls customized by eBay seller artfulbabies to look like newborn Harry Potter characters . In case you couldn’t tell because you don’t even know like a single magic spell , the burn-it-with-fire demon spawn here is Lord Voldemort . The rest of them aren’t nearly as terrifying, but still somewhat so because of just how lifelike they look. In my opinion, it should be illegal to manufacture a fake baby that look any more realistic than a Cabbage Patch Doll. And by Cabbage Patch Doll I mean a stick with a face drawn on. Have you ever even been baby doll shopping before? Those things are EXPENSIVE. *ahem* I’m looking at you, American Girl doll company! $36 for one tiny-ass outfit for my niece’s doll . I could get TWO entire Geekologie Writer outfits for that! “Damn GW — what the f*** do you wear?!” Ha, nothing but $18 bourbon, baby. Hit the jump for a bunch more in this order: another Voldemort, Dobby the House Elf, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy, Ron Weasley, Hermoine and Harry himself.

I’ve never seen or read any of the Harry Potters because I’m against the portrayal of fake wizardry , but a friend told me this was “absolutely f***in’ hysterical”, so here it is. I actually bothered doing the research (which is rare) to understand the joke and now I just feel embarrassed for my friend. Or should I say “ex-friend.” Haha — check your Facebook, Kyle! Harry Potter Math [buzzfeed] Thanks to Kyle, who probably won’t be making the cut for my cookout this weekend.

Note: Slightly larger version HERE in case you’re into deets (that’s slang for details). This is a “paper-pieced” Harry Potter quilt thrown SEWN together by Jennifer Offenstein (NOT Castle Wolfenstein). As you might be able to see, it was hand-crafted with a love for the series and, I dunno, maybe even a little magic . Jk, jk — we’d have to burn her for being a witch. This quilt is more just a million bits of fabric stitched together. It represents all the years I’ve loved Harry Potter and some of my favorite things about the series. It has brought me friends, and fans, and brought more quilters that I can count into the wonderful world of paper piecing. *wiping tear* Sorry — it’s just that arts & crafts stories always get to me. Oooooor I was plucking nose hairs and writing Geekologie at the same time. Which one was it? The world may never know! SPOILER: Now my nose is bleeding. Harry Potter Paper Piecing (with a ton more info, plus patterns!!!!!11) via Kickass Quilt of the Day [thedailywh.at] Thanks to Denise, not to be confused with Denny’s , which is where I’m usually puking around 4AM. And to rose, who just made her own by stapling a bunch of Harry Potter dust jackets to an afghan.

As you may well know, I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books so I don’t know if pancakes are a staple at Hogwarts , but I kind of assume not BECAUSE PANCAKES ARE SOME MUGGLE-ASS SHIT. Real wizards and witches eat toad choads and lizard dicks or whatever. Also, since when has making pancakes been a “MAKE AND BAKE ACTIVITY”? Making pancakes isn’t a f***ing “activity”, it’s “something you do so you don’t go to work hungry”. What a waste of marketing dollars! That said, I’d kill for some Lord of the Ring brand breakfasts cereal. OMG — SOOOOOOOOO MANY RINGS! Pancake Wizard Of The Day [geeks.thedailywh.at] Thanks to Betsey, who knows the only truly magical breakfast is Quaker Oatmeal Dinosaur Eggs. I know, right — sometimes I do four packets at once!

Charlie is a 14-year old kitty that had to have the tip of his nose and ears removed due to skin cancer. He’s fine now except the animal shelter he’s at fears he’ll never get adopted because he looks like Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series. Really? I’m surprised some crazy cat lady hasn’t adopted him because he looks like Voldemort and would complete her live Harry Potter pet collection. You’re sick and you need to get better, lady! Workers at the Blue Cross animal charity say visitors have been scared off by the white cat’s resemblance to Ralph Fiennes’ character in the blockbuster movies. And the similarities don’t end there as Charlie must now live in solitude since he fell out with other animals at the sanctuary. Now he sits alone, staring out of his castle cage, waiting to be freed. ‘He looks you in the eye when you talk to him, loves fuss, lots of tickles and cuddles and wants to be near you. *sobbing* GOD I’LL TAKE HIM, OKAY?! You see, I don’t know anything about the Harry Potter series because I and most REAL WIZARDS don’t appreciate that no-blood puggle or whatever Miss Rowlings spouting off about things she obviously knows nothing about. ONLY WITCHES KNOW MAGIC! *readying the fire* So, what’s it gonna be: Liar? Or witch? Choose carefully but we still burn both. UPDATE : Charlie has been adopted by a woman who does not give a shit about Harry Potter. Hit the jump for several more shots, including one of Lord Voldemort for comparison. The nose, similarity ends at the nose.

Apparently stupid parents are getting their stupid children pet owls so they can be more like Harry Potter . Dammit Harry, why couldn’t you have had a hamster ?! In the story, owls are messengers and the child wizard has his own snowy owl named Hedwig, who has a fan base all her own and is depicted as a clever, devoted and loving animal. A report by a wildlife group has indicated that there has been a sharp decline in India’s owl population, which may or may not be related to the popularity of the bespectacled adolescent wizard. “There seems to be a strange fascination even among the urban middle classes for presenting their children with owls. There is an increase in people looking to purchase owls from illegal traders. These birds are being trapped and traded….,” says Indian Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh. Ugh, this is why I hate parents. “Hey kid, here’s that owl you were throwing a fit about. Sure it’ll be dead in a month due to negligence, but hopefully you’ll cease your whining in the meantime.” THAT IS NO WAY TO TEACH YOUR CHILD A LIFE LESSON, OR SHOW ANY RESPECT FOR AVIAN LIFE. No, if your kid asks for an owl, this is the responsible parental reaction: “AN OWL?! ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME?! I’M NOT GETTING YOU AN OWL! YOU’LL GET A STICK WITH A FACE PAINTED ON IT AND LIKE IT!” Is Harry Potter Responsible for the Decline of Owls in India? [weirdasianews] Thanks to Melissa, who begged her parents for a Luck Dragon after watching The Never Ending Story but her parents refused BECAUSE THEY’RE GOOD PARENTS.

Maybe you already knew this because you’re a Hogwarts graduate but Universal Studios is opening a Harry Potter themed section of its Islands of Adventure park in Orlando this spring. Magic! From what i can tell it’s gonna be like three rides ( NSFW ) and twelve ridiculously overpriced restaurants and stores. Whee! (Get me a new wizard hat) Speaking of Harry Potter, you know what I saw the other day? Some grown-ass adult driving around with a ‘My Parents Blatantly Hid My Hogwarts Acceptance Letter’ bumper sticker on his car. So you know what I did? I honked to get his attention and then waved my own little wand at him. Yeah, it was pretty magical. Official Site Thanks to evan, who cast off his wizard robe and hat and was subsequently banned from all amusement parks.
