Homebrew, 3D printed Fisher-Price record-player disc plays "Still Alive"

Pittance sez, “This is my brand new 3D printed Fisher-Price record player record (for the old clockwork music box one, not the new electronic one) playing “Still Alive” from Portal. It’s entirely made using Processing and printed at Shapeways and, now I know how to do it, I really hope I can make more with different tunes - suggestions?” 3D Printed Record - ‘Still Alive’

PSP Vita sales slip in Japan

Sony’s new handheld gaming console, the PSP Vita, is selling poorly in Japan . Within days of its launch, sales were slower than everything Nintendo makes, and even the PSP Old. Will Americans want a $250 handheld game console with $50 games more than Japanese? [Kotaku]

Sega Outrun re-created as Arduino-driven mechanical game

Gustavo recreated the classic Sega driving game “Outrun” as a handheld mechanical amusement, controlled by an Arduino. Made in over a month using spare time, he managed to capture all the features of this classic Sega arcade game in an Arduino-driven, servo-spinning tabletop console. The objective of the game is to drive a lap in the allotted time without hitting any other cars on the road. Gustavos version uses a magnetic sensor to detect collisions and a photoresistor to sense when the lap has been completed. Continuous rotation servos allow the car to move back and forth and make the road move beneath the car. And if thats not enough, the steering wheel even vibrates when the car crashes. A Mechanical Take on an Arcade Classic

Pokemon Card Freakout At Toys R Us, Kid Throws Snorlax-Sized Hissy Fit

This is a video of a kid’s mom refusing to buy him more Pokemon cards at Toys R Us, and the kid losing his Pokemind in the middle of the store. At first I thought it was fake because why would you be film yourself talking at the checkout of a toy store , then I realized the kid had already started his downward spiral into hysteria BEFORE the film started rolling. Now I’m not saying if I were that kid’s mother I’d have breasts I would’ve made him walk home, because that’s how you get your kids abducted. No, I would have tied a rope around his waist and made him tow the car home. That way I could keep an eye on him. *tapping head* Always thinking, this one. Hit the jump for the wrap it up public service announcement.

Geek Chic’s insane and beautiful gaming tables

Seen at New York Comic-Con, which I’m presently attending, the fabulous, ultra-deluxe gaming tables of Geek Chic, which sport a series of nested, pull-out play-surfaces, drawers, a rail-system for suspending drinks/bins/additional surfaces, erasable acrylic-coated surfaces, and so forth. Shown here is the “Sultan,” their top-of-the-range item, but they have a variety of options for smaller homes and budgets. I like their slogan: “Suck it, Swiss Army Knife.”
