Archie Comics Themed Engagement Photoshoot

This is an Archie comics themed engagement shoot (and Photoshopping) for newly committed couple Bryan and Anne by Visionary Photography Hub. I don’t know if you guys knew it or not, but I’m somewhat of a visionary photographer myself. *staring at cubicle wall through Polaroid viewfinder* This shot needs way more laser boobs. Surprisingly, everything was drawn by the company’s graphic artist, except for the diner setting which was shot at Johnny Rockets. “Photoshop was used and as well as a pen tablet for the illustrations,” [creative Director Mike] Lavarez explained to us. The greatest challenge in creating these scenes belonged not to the graphic artist, however, but to Jervy Santiago, the photographer. “He had to consider the rules of perspective in every layout,” he said. “The point of views had to be consistent since we wanted everything to look dimensional with a cinematic flair (a storyboard was involved for each angle). It had to look like they were actually with Archie and his gang.” Admittedly, I like the concept, and I rarely like anything. Not even, wait for it — candy or ice cream. *gasps from audience* Joking, you don’t get *jiggling belly* this fat eating nothing but yogurt and celery. It also took a lot of beer and — AND — surviving multiple heart attacks. “Those weren’t heart attacks, just really bad gas.” I thought that was the smell of death. Hit the jump for the whole series, which kind of tells a story. Not a particularly interesting one, but a loose story nonetheless.

It Exists: Custom Infiniti ‘N BYOND’ License Plate

On last week’s Legend of Zelda license plate post I jokingly suggested tipster Macky had an Infiniti and ‘N BEYOND’ custom plate and, not that surprisingly, somebody in Manitoba has one. No word if they have an entire Toy Story playset arranged on their dash, but you and I both know they’d be foolish not to. Thanks to benzo, whose friend allegedly took the picture. Me? I took my neighbor’s newspaper this morning.

Eye Candy: The World In A Drop Of Water (Plus Bonus Spider Man & Batman!)

German Photographer Marcus Reugels takes pictures of water droplets refracting an image of a planet behind them, making them each appear to contain a lil world (prior: MC Escher droplet ). Aaaaaaah, we’re all gonna drown! Just kidding, but this does remind me of that cat in Men In Black that carries a whole galaxy around on its collar. Marcus sells prints of his work on his website and also takes requests in case you’ve got something special in mind. “I’m gonna get one of my penis!” Ha, I said special. BURN! Your girlfriend agrees though is the thing. Hit the jump for several more earths, a moon, Jupiter, Spider Man and Batman and a picture of his setup.

It’s About Time: Company Designs Site-Specific Camo

Because those forest green camo shorts don’t hide you on the street as well as you’d like to imagine, a North Carolina company is now designing site-specific camouflage using satellite imagery and drone/ground recon. ZOMG — tell me you can make me look like a women’s sauna. Additionally because the patterns are created from photos that have been taken at different focal lengths it inhibits depth perception — making it more challenging for the brain to see the camouflaged surfaces as a single object. The camouflage may even receive a further upgrade, with the software firm applying for a patent on an “adaptive” material consisting of a vinyl substrate, a flexible image display that could adjust to the environment, and thermoelectric panels that could modify the soldier’s heat signature. Whoa whoa whoa, that sounds like quite a jump — going from printed cloth to morphing adaptive camo with thermoelectrics that can modify a soldier’s heat signature? You do know you’re not going to be able to make those on the same machinery as the cloth camo, right? Thankfully, I’ve got just the technology you need — only $2,000,000. “Is that what I think it is?” Depends, what do you think it is? “An Easy-Bake Oven taped to a sewing machine?” Maybe . Just give me a cool mill, I like your bulge smile. Special ops dream: next-gen camo to be site-specific [dvice] Thanks to Brian, who hides the old fashioned way: covering his eyes and humming “la la la — you can’t see me!” (I think he’s four)

Not Finding Nemo: Fish Mimicking Mimic Octopus

I’m on a seafood diet. I seafood and I…where’d it go? This is a video of a black-marble jawfish mimicking a mimic octopus . Just like that classic anti-drug PSA I LEARNED IT BY WATCHING YOU! Parents who use drugs, have children who use drugs. Plus some parents who DON’T do drugs will still have kids who do. And some parents who DO use drugs will have kids who DON’T because they’ll be all, “God, mom’s been on the wine since 10AM again and is getting f***in’ sloppy .” For a good 15 minutes, this black-marble jawfish took the mollusk express, presumably to find food beyond its burrow. As nifty as the fish’s behavior is, the researchers suspect that this isn’t an everyday interaction. From the recent paper in the journal Coral Reefs, “Opportunistic mimicry by a Jawfish”: Since the Black-Marble Jawfish is distributed from Japan to Australia, whereas the Mimic Octopus is restricted to the Indo-Malay region, we think this is a case of opportunistic rather than obligate mimicry. Neato. Of course you can’t rule out the possibility that the fish thought those tentacles were other fish to have sex with. Because my dog humps stuffed animals sometimes and they only KIND OF look like him. The giraffe one not at all. Hit the jump for the video along with a bonus one of two mimic octopi MAKIN’ THE LOVE. Honey, that wasn’t me. But he looked just like you, I swear!

Conceptual Star Wars Character Evian Bottles

This is a series of conceptual Evian water bottles designed by Mandy Brencys to look like both Star Wars characters AND lightsabers . Still, would you be willing to pay an extra $2 for a bottle of water that looks like a wookie-saber? Of course you would — look who I’m f***ing talking to. Evian Star Wars (on Marcy’s CargoCollective page) Thanks to PYY, who may or may yes be a water fairy. “Woodland.” She’s a woodland fairy.

MIT Develops A ‘Trillion Frames Per Second’ Camera

Seen here giving the camera their best serious but cool, MIT researchers Andreas Velten and Ramesh Raskar pose in front of a Coke bottle filled with highlighter fluid or something. I don’t know, physics and I don’t always get along. That’s how I’m able to levitate . Just kidding, it’s magnets and wires. Anyway, these two studs have developed a means of capturing shots at 1/1,000,000,000,000th of a second, enabling photography of the movement of light itself. SU-SU-SU-SCIENCE!: Basically, nanosecond laser pulses are shone on an object. In front of the camera is a narrow slit, so that only a thin slice of the laser light can be seen at one time — the technical name for this device is a “streak camera.” The laser pulses, with very complex timing circuitry, are then picked up by an array of 500 sensors in the camera — but only one “scan line” at a time (thanks to the narrow slit). Using mirrors, the camera’s angle of view is changed over time until each of these one-dimensional slices can be built up into a complete 2D image. This process, which takes about an hour, has led to one of its creators — Ramesh Raskar — to dub this trillion-FPS wonder “the world’s slowest fastest camera.” There’s a video of the two creators explaining the technology after the jump that I was *this close* to being able to wrap my head around. Get it? Because my head is long like a jump rope. One time I even tripped a purse-snatcher, then used my head to tie him to a light pole until the cops arrived. True story 100% lies. Hit the jump and get your laser light photography show on.

Popular iPhone Games Recreated IRL For Music Video

This is the music video for Hey Geronimo’s ‘Why Don’t We Do Something?’ (I dunno, maybe because we’re really f***ing high and the couch is comfortable!), featuring a bunch of iPhone games recreated in real life . It’s worth checking out. The games: Flight Control, Fruit Ninja, Plants Vs. Zombies, Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. Don’t worry though, the song’s okay, but it’s not the kind that’s gonna get stuck in your head for the rest of the day like Chocolate Rain or the TROLOLOLOL song. HAHA — have fun with those two, jerks! Hit the jump for the music bideo (bideo is the new video but I don’t know why it’s not catching on).

It’s Dangerous To Go Alone, Want Some Company?: Hacked Legend Of Zelda Marriage Proposal

A Zelda-loving couple recently got engaged after brobro hacked an emulated version of The Legend of Zelda to display a “will you marry me?” screen upon entering the cave at the beginning to collect your wooden sword. *sobbing uncontrollably* Always an usher, never even a groomsman. We had been playing the original Legend of Zelda on an emulator the previous weekend. (My fiance owns the original NES cartridge too, but the emulator makes hacking easier.) A few nights before, he and his roommate finished it, so he asked if I wanted to do the second quest. I said sure, so he turned on the computer and I started playing. When I entered the cave with the old man, (who normally says “It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this!”) who gives you a sword, it instead said what you see in the picture above. I looked over at my fiance; he was kneeling and holding a heart container made out of Legos. The ring was inside. Obviously I said yes! Edit: Many of you have asked if we are planning on doing a Zelda wedding. I think that’s a bit too nerdy for us… AHAHHAHAHAHA @ “I think that’s a bit too nerdy for us”. You already had a Zelda themed wedding proposal. If you think for one second dude isn’t gonna try cutting the cake with a Master Sword replica you’ve got another thing coming. Probably fairy-in-a-bottle wedding table decorations. F***, that’s actually a good idea! Hit the jump for a shot of the LEGO heart container ring “box”.

Moving Pictures: Animated Comic Book Covers

These are a couple animated gif comic book covers created by Kerry Callen. Because if there’s one thing comic books have been missing, it’s fragrance samples animated covers. Follow the link to Kerry’s site for Justice League and Batman ones.
